Keep that filter on your lens!

Filters and hoods. These are two essential items often overlooked or taken for granted by the novice and even by some more advanced photo enthusiasts. And yes, I’ve seen even professional photographers going about their business without these two important items. Let’s talk about filters first.  What are filters ? Filters are those circular clear glass photographers put on their new lenses.  During the time of film, filters are a must on every lens for these reasons: To prevent haze – These filters, known as UV filters or Skylight, prevents outdoor images from becoming hazy and indistinct because of invisible ultra violet rays coming from the sun. . Especially used when shooting with Black and White film. For photographic effects – Various photographic effects filters are available such as polarizers, which are optional accessories . Shooting the world in Mono

I have always been partial to monochrome images. Also commonly known as Black and Whites or greyscale .This, despite the fact that color images has been around us for quite a while. But please don’t misunderstand me. I like color. They are vibrant and alive. We live in a world of color. Plus the fact that our brains had been wired to see in colors. It is nature’s way of helping our brain distinguish images. So, why do I love shooting in black and whites ? Well, for one thing, mono images has the inherent ability to convey raw emotions and feelings where color cannot. Looking at black and whites and it’s variants ( such as sepia) always makes me feel sentimental, for example. Black and white images are preferred by some because of their timeless classic elegance and appeal.. They have the feel of history and antiquity. My photography...

I don’t tend to stick to one genre of photography. I love all of them. Nature, fashion, street, documentary,stills … and a lot more, not necessarily in that order. I shoot to satisfy myself first, then share them to other people. Some may like it, others not.  I do have my own unique style, just as other photographers have their own. To be good at photography, all you need to have is the passion. You must love to take pictures, not because it earns you money, but because of self gratification.  Photography books and classes are secondary. Rules on photography? I’m not so obsessed with them. Sometimes I break them…
